Generator or Battery Backup Sump Pump in New Jersey?

Here in New Jersey we had 2 events in 2011 that caused most of the State to lose power; Hurricane Irene and an October snowstorm. The electricity was out at my house for three days with each event. One had widespread flooding with it and the other did not.You know you need to keep your sump pump going, so what it going to be; Generator or battery backup sump pump?.

Are you looking to run your HVAC, TV, computer, refrigerator, and sump pump(s), and freezer in the basement and the lights in your house? Or just the sump pump?

Small Generators

If you only want to power your refrigerator, basement freezer and sump pump(s) a portable generator will do just fine. The portable units are something like you would see at a campground. This type of unit is powered by a gasoline engine and is as noisy as a lawnmower. The smaller portable generator will power your sump pump and refrigerator and maybe a little more. The gasoline holding tank capacity can run the engine for up to 12 hours before needing a refill. So you have to refill the gas twice a day, it’s noisy and it will keep your sump pump and fridge going if you are home when the power goes out. Or, better yet, if you are home and AWAKE when the power goes out. Think about that for a minute. If you ever plan on taking a family vacation how would that generator work?

Full Home Generators

If you are looking to fully replace your lost electricity to operate everything in your home you would need a stationary generator to power your whole house. Now we’re talking about the sump pump, the fridge, the lights, the A/C, the TV, the computer and everything. This generator is usually powered by natural gas so you don’t have to do any handling of gasoline. It comes with a transfer switch so it will start automatically in the event of a power failure.

Battery Backup Sump Pump

Then a heavy-duty backup sump pump is the answer for you. The Heavy Duty DC backup system that we install pumps up to 35gpm with a 10ft high ejection head with a fully charged battery. The system can run for up to ten continuous hours of pumping and move a total of over 12,000 gallons, which translates to almost a week of backup protection under normal pump cycling. If that is not enough for your peace of mind, you can add another battery in tandem to have a combined total pumping capacity of 24,000 Gallons of water.

Choose wisely when selecting a Battery Back Up Sump Pump. At A-1 Basement Solutions, we provide the full solution to protect your basement during a power outage.
