He succeeded when the NJ Legislature of 1867 on March 14th, adopted “an act creating the Township of Kearny”.
In 1867, Kearny Township was incorporated by an Act of the New Jersey State Legislature from Harrison Township. In 1899, Kearny was reincorporated as a Town.
Kearny is known as “Soccer Town, U.S.A” as they game was being played by many Scottish and Irish immigrants in the 1870’s.
The HBO television show The Sopranos was filmed mostly in Kearny.
