Basement paint is often advertised as a solution to a wet basement. Before you go spending your money let's look at some facts about basement paints. Waterproofing paint is just another name that basement paints may go by.
Why Waterproofing Paint does not work
You can literally put on 10-20-100 coats of paint, but it will never hold the water back. Once the hydrostatic pressure builds up, it will force itself through at some point.
When you paint the inside of your basement wall, you can slow down moisture, but not water. You are not eliminating the water from entering the cement block wall from outside.
This water will accumulate and stay for long periods of time inside the basement walls.
The long-term problems with moisture in your concrete block walls is that it will eventually start to deteriorate your basement walls, possibly causing structural damage. If your basement is leaking, the problem can’t be solved with paint.
If not Waterproofing Paint, then what?
A-1 Basement Solutions has the answer. We apply Pene-Seal-Crete to the basement walls. Pene-Seal-Crete is a deep-penetrating soil gas and moisture barrier. According to the EPA, the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers is radon gas. Pene-Seal-Crete reduces the presence of radon in a home by reacting with concrete’s free lime and forming an expanded crystalline structure beneath the surface. This process fills up pores, voids or cracks within the concrete that may or may not be visible to the human eye, eliminating capillary action to prevent the penetration of moisture and soil gas infiltration. It may also be used to permanently strengthen new and existing concrete.
- Protect homes against dangerous soil gases, including radon, and moisture. A 'must do' in any household!
- May be applied on poured foundations or concrete block; above or below grade, interior or exterior, vertical or horizontal.
- Harmless to the environment.
- Colorless, odorless and solvent free.
- Not a membrane type sealer, concrete may be painted over after application.
